Angkor Wat Temple
This iconic temple complex is Cambodia's biggest tourist attraction and a source of Khmer national pride. This is a temple, a sacred place of worship and a very large religious relic. Built in the 12th century as a Hindu temple, then converted into a Buddhist temple, this temple is honored to appear on the Cambodian flag as a symbol of this country.
Wat Langka
This is home to a sparkling temple with beautiful grounds and colorful murals. As one of Cambodia's oldest temples, built in 1442, the temple is still very well preserved and has free meditation sessions throughout the week.
Mondulkiri
Mondulkiri province is mainly home to the ethnic minority group, who have lived in the mountainous area for generations, known as the caretakers of Cambodia's sacred forests. Nature lovers will love Mondulkiri because of its large forest with many rare flora and fauna. It is also home to a handful of very good elephant sanctuaries.
Prasat Preah Viget
Prasat Preah Viget has been the epicenter of conflict for decades. Located on the edge of the Cambodia-Thailand border, the temple is the main reason in the fierce battle between the two countries over ownership of this sacred site. Prasat Preah Viget was built between the 9th and 12th centuries with a series of very impressive structures.
Koh Ker
Although the Koh Ker temple complex is little known, it is also an ancient sacred place of worship that Cambodians cherish. Once the capital of the Angkor empire from 928AD to 944AD, this remote site (located 12km northeast of Siem Reap) boasts 42 religious buildings and monuments spread over a 9km area in the middle of the forest sacred.
Phnom Kulen
Phnom Kulen is a national park located in Siem Reap province and is considered by locals to be the most sacred mountain in Cambodia. This place has a giant reclining Buddha statue carved on a high mountain top along with a beautiful, perfect waterfall. During religious festivals, Cambodian people flock to Phnom Kulen in large numbers to visit temples and admire the beautiful scenery of the Lingas River.
